As respected members of the Dying Matters coalition, and as part of the associated Awareness Week, we at the Brighton and Hove based ‘Sussex Funeral Directors’ are proud to be hosting a funeral fair, from 10am to 4pm at Hove Town Hall, on Tuesday May 14th 2013.
We feel that this is a fantastic opportunity to host a fair and help the local community understand what the options are when arranging a funeral, when learning how to organise your own death, how to cope with a loss and who to come to for advice.
Our event at Hove Town Hall will feature stalls run by a variety of businesses, each offering a unique and insightful view into the wider lens of dying, death and bereavement.
On display will be offerings from charities, solicitors, musicians, local horse and carriage masters, as well as a local white dove company. This broad and vibrant mix will help to highlight the key areas of the Dying Matters cause.
Alongside the events, light refreshments will be available, kindly provided for by the Martlets Hospice.
For all the Cliff Richard fans among you, we at Sussex Funeral Directors have purchased tickets to his concert, which is being held at the Sussex County Cricket Ground in Hove. These tickets are being raffled and all the proceeds are going to the Martlets Hospice.
The organisation ‘Dying Matters’ aims to reverse this traditional, stifled way of thinking and help us make key decisions and plan for our end of life. To aid in this movement, Dying Matters hosts an annual awareness week that runs nationwide. This focuses on educating as many as possible in the issues of dying, death and bereavement.
We believe firmly in what Dying Matters stands for, and so it is a privilege to be partners in this positive alliance and we hope for great success in raising awareness about dying, death and bereavement.
In an age where we often neglect the open discussion about death, it is refreshing that Dying Matters and its members want to face up to this and make a difference. We believe that Awareness Weeks such as these are crucial in speaking to and educating communities. They also seek to add a sense of unity – of introducing the public to charities they may never have heard of and give them an opportunity to discuss options for their end of life or bereavement. Our fair at the Hove Town Hall will apply and be enjoyed by all, so please feel free to come along and see for yourself; take in some refreshments and hopefully you will be inspired to change your direction in thinking about death.
