Funeral Directors Peacehaven
Table of Contents
Eager to support their community, Philip and Sallie are the husband-and-wife team behind Sussex Funeral Services. As qualified Funeral Directors also servicing the Peacehaven area, we work out of our Brighton and Hove office where we regularly assist clients from the neighbouring communities in providing funeral care for their loved ones. With many years of experience, we realise planning a funeral is a difficult thing, especially when you’re bereaved, which is why we make it our mission to guide you through your options, provide compassionate care and support, and go about arranging your loved one’s funeral ethically and with the personal touch that you’d expect from a family-owned business.
Which Service Is Right For You?
The most important thing to remember when planning a funeral is that there are no rules. Instead, there are basic types of funerals that you’re able to personalise and turn into something bespoke and fitting to cherish your loved one. This could be a traditional burial led by a Minister, or someone alternative that’s more suited to celebrating your loved one’s life. Whatever you choose, Sussex Funeral Services will assist in a professional, caring and ethical way, offering you support at every step of the way. Below are some of the options available to you:
Simple Direct To Grave Burial
As the name suggests, this is the simplest of burial funeral types. The direct-to-grave burial usually takes place shortly after your loved one’s passing and doesn’t involve a service in a church or at the graveside. It’s typically priced at £999 plus burial fees.
Full Traditional Burial Service
On the other hand, a full traditional burial includes a church service before a procession, led by a hearse, and takes your loved one to the cemetery. This is the most traditional approach, and the service is usually held in the local parish church, or other appropriate venue, such as a cemetery chapel; but as Funeral Directors for Peacehaven, we’re able to personalise it to take place somewhere more sentimental, should you prefer. You can expect to pay around £3,849 for this option, but it does depend on your preferences and needs.
Unattended Direct Cremation
Priced at £799 plus disbursements for crematorium or doctor’s fees where applicable, an unattended direct cremation is similar to a direct-to-grave burial. This means there will be no service at all, making it an affordable option, especially if your loved one’s wish was for something fuss-free. This has been one of the most increasingly popular options over the last few years.
Attended Full Cremation Service
Alternatively, there’s also the option of full cremation services, which can take place and usually does, entirely at the crematorium, with a full service, complete with readings and eulogies etc. If you prefer, you can change the location of the service to somewhere more personal, such as a community hall or outside in the open-air countryside. At Sussex Funeral Service, we’ll present you with every option available to you with this type of funeral; priced from £2,800.
As Funeral Directors servicing Peacehaven, will present you with every choice, letting you consider them without ever rushing you or asking you to overspend.
Traditional and Alternative Services
A steadily increasing number of people opt for non-traditional or alternative funerals. They could include spiritual or religious aspects, be officiated by a spiritual or another type of leader or a loved one, and aim to pay homage to the life lived, the values expressed, and the wishes conferred.
Celebrant funerals allow the family to create a meaningful and respectful sendoff that’s in line with what their loved one would have loved or chosen themselves. Philip is a trained and registered celebrant and has helped many South Coast families say goodbye in a personal and memorable way.
Other alternatives to consider when deciding how to honour the life lived could include a motorcycle procession for the wild at heart, or a green funeral that aims to minimise the environmental impact we create when departing. Here, we’re looking at biodegradable coffins, or water-degradable urns for a personal farewell on a body of water.

Funeral plans
With only a mere 6% of the UK population currently on any sort of funeral plan, it’s the sad truth that many families are unnecessarily exposed to the cost of dying. With Golden Charter as the underwriting partner, we’re happy to bring you affordable and customisable funeral plans to protect your family and interests when your time comes. Golden Charter is one of the largest and most recognised funeral service plan providers in the UK. With a funeral plan in place, you get peace of mind about:
- Protecting your family’s well-being – After you pass away, your family will have real and dedicated support that deals both with the practical arrangements of the funeral service and cremation/burial, as well as providing understanding and compassionate support.
- Protecting your family’s financial interests – Your funeral plan will overwhelmingly cover the costs of your death (minus minor disbursements), meaning your family won’t be saddled with unexpected costs. You can lock in your funeral costs to avoid the effects of inflation on funeral prices.
- A meaningful service – You get to choose the details and type of service that you would prefer. Ask Philip or Sallie about what options are available.
- The guarantee that you and your family will be taken care of by an independently run local funeral director.
